Informal waste workers are the backbone of Monrovia’s waste system, yet they often lack recognition and safe working conditions. This consultancy opportunity, led by C40 Cities in partnership with Monrovia City Corporation, seeks to integrate these workers into the city’s official waste management strategy, improving both livelihoods and environmental outcomes.
The consultant will design low‑literacy‑friendly training modules on health and safety, waste segregation, financial literacy, and cooperative governance. Training will be delivered through four in‑person sessions for around 40 workers at Stockton Creek and Fiamah transfer stations. Beyond training, the consultant will facilitate the formation and legal registration of at least two worker cooperatives, supporting bylaws, leadership elections, and financial management systems.
