Across the continent, cultural and natural heritage faces urgent threats — from climate change and conflict to weak custodianship systems and limited resources. Protecting these sites is vital not only for identity and memory but also for sustainable development and community resilience.
This opportunity supports Master’s and Doctoral students conducting dissertation research on heritage conservation, climate and heritage, and digital innovation at African World Heritage Sites. Grants prioritize projects that strengthen risk management, promote youth and intergenerational knowledge transmission, and advance inclusive approaches to heritage preservation.
Selected researchers will receive financial support for fieldwork, mentorship, and opportunities to contribute to global knowledge on heritage management. Proposals are evaluated for clarity, methodological soundness, and their contribution to conservation practice, with attention to gender, language, and geographic balance.
💡 Support available — grants up to USD 5,000 for fieldwork and heritage research across Africa.
