In vulnerable regions, pastoral and agro‑pastoral communities face the compounded challenges of climate shocks, land degradation, low productivity, and restricted financial access. These pressures threaten food security, livelihoods, and the resilience of households already struggling with limited services and fragile ecosystems.
This initiative strengthens local food systems through ecosystem restoration, agribusiness development, and financial inclusion. It supports training and mentorship for 400 agri‑preneurs who will reach over 16,000 farmers, formation of 140 village savings and loan associations, and restoration of 600 acres of degraded land using sustainable land management techniques.
The programme also improves water and natural resource management through community governance systems, promotes efficient water use, and strengthens soil conservation practices. By linking farmers to markets and enhancing productivity in crops such as maize, onions, and fodder, the initiative builds stronger value chains and supports inclusive growth.
Women and youth are central to this effort, with interventions designed to empower local institutions and ensure community ownership of climate resilience strategies.
